Works for me: Life Mission Statement

The development of a Life Mission Statement has been a very revealing process for me. I hoped to articulate a statement that was both timeless and timely. I wanted the words to be relevant, alive, and full of meaning. I began this process by beginning with trying to understand what I felt my purpose was in life.

I know that God can use me to help effect transformation in the lives of His people by encouraging them to seek God, especially through His word. This is the very method by which my own life was transformed. The more I read about God and who I was in Christ, the more my life began to change for the better. God calls us to a standard of holiness. As we renew our mind, we are transformed, and it is through our own transformation that we are able to effect positive transformation in the lives of others. I know that I cannot transform anyone’s life in my own power, but it is God that does all the transforming.
God does not require us to love Him, we get to love Him. It is humbling to think that I could be loved so much. For me, it is when someone serves out of love that makes me marvel in awe of God. We are gifts to each other and not burdens. It is a shame that people do not love as Christ loved us.

As a result of this exploration process, my Life Mission Statement is:

Committed to the truth, I will be a lifelong learner continually growing in the knowledge of God. By following the example of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I will live a life of service without regard to race, color, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic, language or geographical boundaries. Submitted to the Lord’s authority, I will strive to have God to use me to transform the whole lives of others by using His word to shine a light when there is darkness. By working alongside God’s people in love, it is my desire that each person shall discern for themselves what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
